Viewed by many as the HBCU Game of the Year, the Alabama State Hornets vs the Jackson State Tigers most certainly lived up to the hype! Amongst a packed-out homecoming crowd of 44,000+ in Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Tigers triumphantly held off the Hornets with a last-second goal-line stop to win the game by the score of 38-34.
JSU’s head coach TC Taylor and his team were overcome with joy, while ASU’s head coach Eddie Robinson Jr and his group felt the agony of defeat. So much emotion and passion were left on the field.
Both QB’s played an outstanding game. For Bama State, Andrew Body was phenomenal, accounting for 442 yards of total offense. He made big play after big play and led his team to playing a great game in a hostile environment on the road. Meanwhile, for Jackson State, Jacobian Morgan was incredible, totaling 253 yards of offense and 5 touchdown passes, including the game winner with 50 seconds left on the clock to put JSU up for good.
Both defenses were tested to their limits by these explosive offenses and great quarterbacks. JSU’s star defensive lineman, Quincy Ivory was one of the most outstanding players on the field recording 12 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception on a spectacular play. For ASU, Ta’Shaun Sims caught an interception while linebacker Jalil Lenore forced a crucial fumble on a great play that was recovered by Zaquan Patterson.
This game was an instant classic and will be talked about for years to come. Jackson State improves to 5-1 (3-0 SWAC), while Alabama State falls to 4-2 (2-1 SWAC).
